Unreal Engine 5, Blueprint
In this project, I created a responsive and reactive third-person character controller using Unreal Engine 5, implemented UE's experimental Motion Matching component in Blueprint, and integrated the AI generative animation system Motorica.
The video above contains a thorough walkthrough of the technical details.
The animation data was collected from two main sources:
Motion Capture: thanks to the USC Mocap Volume, I was able to record mocap animations and bring them into UE after going through the traditional mocap pipeline, including capturing, data cleaning (Motive), retargeting, and tweaking (Motion Builder).
Motorica: I used the latest AI plugin to generate realistic character locomotion animation inside Unreal Engine, replacing 40% of the mocap data with AI-generated animations while maintaining the quality of the final results.
